I want to stress that this is YOUR Reunion, not mine or for that matter any member of this committee. The members of this committee are merely acting as custodians of a tradition and brotherhood that extends back many years. No, not just the 25 years since the founding of the reunion, but rather to the appointment of the very first men assigned to maintain Order out of Chaos; a particularly difficult job at street level, let alone trapped inside a moving steel box at 30 miles an hour high above or deep below surface of the earth; or perhaps even worse, in-between stations with brakes in emergency. These men, later joined by women, would develop tactics that often involved developing a unique understanding of human nature, rather than physical strength to accomplish their task. It is hard to believe how officers who rarely work together can develop a stronger bond, mostly of a mutual respect, more so than that of their counterparts who ride seated beside each other in a patrol car every day for more than eight hours, but its true. This bond is more like that of the U.S. Marine Corp, perhaps compared to that of so many other branches of service… not to say those branches don’t share a bond, but the bond between Marines is Legend! “Once a marine, always a marine” Similarly, are the bonds between transit officers… as the sayings go… “Transit for Life” or “Once a Transit Cop, always a Transit Cop”
“Our Mission” is simple: Provide a venue for old friends to come together, to reminisce about the past and set aside a few moments to pay homage and respect to those that have gone before us, those who have cashed that check we all signed when we raised our hand upon taking the oath of office, be sure to take time these next few days to reflect back on our good fortune that we were able to return that check, uncashed upon our retirement.
